Building the cohort that comes next

Unnmay Foundation runs chess education in Uttarakhand's schools. Separately, it runs Chess to Capital: a campaign for final-year undergraduates and post-graduate students who are weeks or months from entering the workforce, and who have never been formally introduced to how capital markets work.

CHESS TO CAPITAL

Final year. Post-grad. About to graduate.

school Final year undergrad school Post-graduation year 1 and 2

Most students graduating from a commerce, economics, or management programme know what a mutual fund is in theory. Very few have a working mental model of how to think about one as a decision. Chess to Capital is built for that gap.

It uses chess as the entry point because chess is a system students already understand. Multi-move planning, calculated risk, reading position, resisting panic. These are not analogies. They are the same cognitive tools that experienced market participants use, named differently.

The campaign is specifically for the cohort that is close enough to a career in finance to find this immediately useful, and early enough that it lands as literacy rather than exam pressure.

HOW CHESS CARRIES IT

The mental models students already own

Chess training runs first. Capital markets concepts are introduced as extensions of a framework the student already uses under pressure.

Multi-move planning
SIP compounding and goal-based portfolio construction
Calculated risk
Equity vs. debt allocation, risk-adjusted returns
Pattern recognition
Reading market cycles, identifying Ponzi structures
Bias resistance
Avoiding herd behaviour and FOMO-driven positions
THE CURRICULUM

What this cohort covers

Pitched at the level of someone who is about to need this. Not simplified. Not a primer. A working introduction to the subject areas that sit at the core of SEBI-regulated finance careers.

check_circle_outlineMutual funds and SIPs: structure, NAV, expense ratios, goal mapping
check_circle_outlineEquity markets: BSE, NSE, index logic, how shares are priced
check_circle_outlineEquity vs. debt allocation and risk-adjusted return thinking
check_circle_outlineSEBI: regulatory structure, investor rights, SCORES grievance portal
check_circle_outlineFraud identification: Ponzi schemes, chit funds, guaranteed-return traps
check_circle_outlinePaper portfolio: virtual Rs.10,000 allocation over 8 weeks of live market data

Assessment closes with the NFLAT. The subject areas map directly to NISM Series V-A, XII, and VIII. A student completing this campaign is not starting from zero when they open a NISM syllabus.

Kha Chan Humra GM?

"Where is our Grandmaster?"

Uttarakhand has produced zero chess Grandmasters. Tamil Nadu has 55. The talent has always been here. Nobody was looking for it in the right place.

Kha Chan Humra GM is Unnmay's school programme. It is a 7-stage talent detection pipeline that starts with 10,000 children and compresses to the 50 most promising students on a direct path to FIDE rating. It runs entirely inside government and private schools across Uttarakhand. It has nothing to do with Chess to Capital. It costs Rs.47 per child to take a student through all seven stages.

Live since July 2025. 4,000+ students have been tested. 200+ schools engaged across Uttarakhand.
